Autism Society of Japan

Autism Society Japan (一般社団法人 日本自閉症協会) is Japan’s national parent-and-family organization for autism spectrum disorder. It works as an umbrella body linking regional autism associations across the country, so families who reach it can be pointed toward support and member groups in their own area rather than dealing with a single office in Tokyo. For parents of a child recently diagnosed with autism, the association is a good first landmark: it maintains plain-language information about autism spectrum disorder and a dedicated page for people who have just received a diagnosis.

The association runs family consultations, publishes materials including its regular “Itoshigo” newsletter, and holds an annual national convention that moves around the country year to year. It also operates ASJ comprehensive coverage (ASJ総合保障), an insurance-style protection program set up with the needs of autistic people and their families in mind. Regional associations affiliated with the national body carry out their own local activities, and the site links to a directory of member groups so families can find the one nearest them.
